05/01/2026: Extension of RE2020 to new building categories

The scope of the environmental regulation (RE2020) is extended to the construction of buildings or parts of buildings for which a building permit application or a prior declaration is filed from May 1, 2026, of the following types:

  • Industrial and artisanal buildings;
  • Media libraries and libraries;
  • Atypical educational buildings;
  • University teaching and research buildings;
  • Hotels;
  • Early childhood care facilities;
  • Restaurants;
  • Retail spaces;
  • Standalone changing rooms;
  • Healthcare facilities with accommodation;
  • Healthcare facilities;
  • Airport terminals;
  • Sports facilities.

May 21, 2026: Cross-border waste transfers

The new provisions set by Regulation (EU) 2024/1157 of April 11, 2024, will come into force on May 21, 2026.

Specifically prohibited are waste transfers for disposal within the European Union (excluding exemptions) and exports of plastic waste to non-OECD countries.

A centralized platform enables the digitalization of information and data exchange on waste transfers throughout the EU.
